Library Summer Reading Program

What a great way to spend your summer with kids at your local library. Every summer San Diego County and Public libraries offer Summer Reading Program at their branches. It’s a wonderful way for kids to read over the summer while having fun.

Library Summer Reading Program

If you go a library near you, there’s a chance they have a list of their Summer Reading program schedule. It will tell you the events and times. The events can be a Mad Science show, Magic Show, Animal Show, Crafts, Jump Star Rope, Music, Story Time and many more. Even Ronald McDonald came to jazz up the summer.

Our favorite is the program at Poway library because the time is right for us. We usually come every Thursday morning at 10.30 to  to watch the show and borrow books.

Do you know that at the library if a kid read 10 books he/she will get a prize? Babies to teenagers can enroll. Just sign up online and log your book reading time until you reach certain quantities of books or hours. Here’s where you can sign up:

This time the prize my kids got for completing the goal are one free book (only at Poway), small toy, coupons for free kids meal at Wendy’s and Chick-Fill-A, one free Churro at Rubio’s, a Legoland coupon and many more. Hey, who don’t want a free Churro? And my kids were happy to eat free at Wendy’s and Chick-Fill-A already.

You can sign up at a public and a county library but you can redeem only once per library per summer. This give total 2 prizes per kid. Each library has a certain time limit when you can redeem your prize so keep that in mind when logging your reading time.
